#300: Invisible Man vs. Invisible Stan, GCW Joey Janela’s Spring Break 3 (4/5/2019).
My 300th match review is a match between two people that you can’t see.
So, Invisible Man had been a mainstay in GCW for quite some time, and was a fan favorite among the GCW faithful. However, out of the blue, GCW made a statement that Invisible Man had tragically passed away at the age of 49. They had a whole thing prepared about his life story, which included the founding of Wombat Wrestling, his addiction battle with asian massages and aerosol cans, how Scientology saved his life, he was a vegan, and how Men at Work was his favorite band.
He even had a wife and kid – Invisible Lisa, and Invisible Sam. He also had a brother – Invisible Stan.
Then, theories started going around the inner circles that Man hadn’t passed away quietly, but that he was actually murdered by his brother. Turns out, Man was alive all along, and he was here at WrestleMania weekend to confront his brother Stan in a fight to the death.
Stan makes his entrance, as one of the FBI’s most wanted, and he’s greeted with “Fuck You Stan” chants. He’s checked for weapons by referee Bryce Rensberg. Now we get the entrance of the Man, who gets a nuclear pop from the fans. “Welcome Back” chants from the appreciative fans in attendance. Bryce takes the mic, and says that the only way he can officiate this match is with Bad Boy vision, so he puts on a pair of Joey Janela’s sunglasses. Now he can see them!
The bell sounds, and here we go! They go to the corner, and we have somewhat of a clean break. They tie up in the center, and now we get an exchange of holds and nearfalls. Rapid fire at that! Both are to their feet, and we have a stand off! Good pop from the fans. Forearm exchange between the two now, and neither man has the advantage yet. Stan rakes the eyes, and Bryce lets him know not to do that. The fans aren’t happy. Stan asks for a chair, and a ringside attendant brings it into the ring.
Bryce sets the chair up in the ring, and now Man wants a chair of his own. Bryce takes it, and sets it up across from the other. Man and Stan take a seat, and begin throwing hard strikes at each other. Bryce calls for a break, as he checks on Man, who’s busted open now. He might call for the bell, but Man shoves him out of the way, and he takes Stan into the crowd. They fight their way through everyone, and they make their way up to the top balcony.
Bryce is admonishing them, but Man suplexes Stan off the balcony into the fans! Back in the ring, Man gets a nearfall off of Stan. Stan shoves Bryce, and Bryce shoves him back! He turns his back, and Stan takes him out with a shot to the back. Some guy in a mask comes out and puts on the glasses. He grabs a chair, and throws it at Stan. DDT on Stan, and Man makes the cover. Stan somehow kicks out! Bryce takes the glasses back, and sends the guy away, but not before Stan takes a cheap shot at him.
Stan nails a top rope suplex to Man, and he’s able to kick out. Man is able to spear Stan through the door in the corner, and that’s enough for the win. Invisible Man has gotten revenge on his brother. This is a fantastic exercise on fan involvement. If you couldn’t tell already, there were no wrestlers in this match! It’s just Bryce Rensberg emoting to make you think that two people are going at it. The fans helped this a lot, as they were in on the gag from the beginning. Their reactions, and Bryce’s actions throughout, somehow made this a lot of fun. It’s silly, it doesn’t make sense, and it really shouldn’t work. Yet somehow, it is an excellent piece of bizarre wrestling entertainment.
